just all over the damn place
i think this is becoming more of a diary on how my adhd affects my ability to stick to one damn project more than anything else...
i've been cooking up another game that's a mix of a couple older ideas (you know when you have a bunch of half-finished things that don't work on their own and finally you find something new that let's you reuse all of them into a new, better work? very satisfying i tell ya). so it's technically not new... this one will have 3d because i have to force myself to at some point and i don't think i'd be able to be satisfied without it so i've been tooling around in godot slowly.
the more projects i start to work on though, the more i find a desire to sort things out from an admin perspective. i currently use github to backup things here and there but i'm wanting to move away from it for many reasons everyone already knows about - unfortunately it's like the only service that gives you free, private cloud storage for git repos. then i came across this website - a web magazine that's self hosted and almost completely solar powered. sick! and now i have something i want to try doing myself too.
i do like bear but i also find self-sufficiency an enticing prospect, even when it is a little stupid in some cases, so it'd be fun to try and set up a system like this myself - self hosting a web-server for the website and for cloud storage. the storage would have to mostly used as a back-up or a way to transfer between devices occasionally (i.e. it doesn't matter if it's not online all the time because your working files exist on the devices you use). on one of the articles about how the site works, they mention that running more than one site would technically be more energy efficient, so it'd be fun to try and rope my friends into hosting sites on there too. just a fun thing to think over, anyway.
in other admin things, i've been looking at the johnny.decmial system yet again. i think it would do my head in trying to use this for my daily life, but i'd like to try setting up a system using this for organising individual game projects. if anything, it would make collaborative work much easier. i've been looking more into digital preservation lately and the longer i leave it the hard it's going to get to sort or my files but it should happen at some point... if you haven't yet either you shouldn't be like me and should get right onto it. who knows what files you'll end up needing in the future but can't find because there's not sense or reason behind the random folders and save locations we all arbitrarily use.
